A Cushion for the Kindergarten

Finally for N.'s nap times in the Kindergarten, I made her a cushion. The fabric was again some old curtains. I made sure to cut around the pattern otherwise it wouldn't have looked so nice.

I gave a go to an invisible (well, almost!) zipper. I just bought one which was a little too short. So fitting the cushion in its cover was a little difficult. But N. likes it nevertheless.

 

Challenge Un mot, Des titres: Session 27

C'est avec bien du retard que je publie ENFIN mon article pour la session 27. Le mot était "Sang". Tout à fait au hasard j'ai choisi un livre d'histoire:

Mon retard s'explique par plusieurs facteurs: j'ai été malade au moment de la remise des "copies" donc je n'ai pas réussi à finir mon livre. Ensuite ce livre m'a pris beaucoup plus de temps que prévu à lire à cause du sujet et de sa longueur. N'ayant pas de connaissance particulière sur l'histoire de la Russie, tout était nouveau pour moi et quand je découvre un sujet nouveau, je prends mon temps pour essayer d'assimiler aussi bien que possible les informations.

Breeeef, dans l'ensemble un livre très intéressant et bien écrit, je pense que je vais aller voir les autres ouvrages de cet auteur. Elle a réussi à rendre le sujet accessible à tous, sans en dire ni trop peu ni pas assez. J'ai éteint ma liseuse en ayant l'impression d'avoir une bonne idée de l'histoire de la Russie sous les Romanov. Après la question est simplement si je vais en retenir beaucoup dans les prochains mois ;)

Le mot de la prochaine session est "Sans", il faut que je me trouve un nouveau livre et que j'essaye de m'en tenir au délai cette fois-ci!

 

Slippers for the Kindergarten

The third I have made for N. in the Kindergarten, is her pair of slippers. She needs a pair there but I did not want to buy any. They usually cost a fair amount of money and I am not always convinced by the quality; plus she is currently growing fast, so I wasn't ready to spend 12€ or more every two months. I'd rather sew them myself a tad larger so that they can last longer with an elastic holding them well at the ankle.

I let N. choose her fabric. She loves her shoes and nobody has the same in the Kindergarten!

Autumn DIY

Autumn is here, but almost coming to an end! Temperatures are now quickly going down. I almost expect the snow to start falling any day now ;) - I am exaggerating a little bit. It will probably be another month before the first snow fall. Anyway, here are some of the stuff we made last year. I had not got around to showing you then, and since this year we are not making much because N. is in the Kindergarten, why not finally show you these? 

All you need is:
- pipe cleaners
- acorns, conkers, wood...
- wooden beads
- a glue gun
- some yarn
- anything you want to use for decorating

It was a lot of fun to make all those guys and N. was proud to have a little present for all the members of her family and her best friends. And I was happy to be able to use (and get rid of!) the stuff the children had collected in the forest!

Backpack for the Kindergarten

Still in the spirit of making N. happy in the Kindergarten, I decided to sew her backpack. I found a pattern on this blog: At Second Street and I used two different fabrics: old jeans from my husband and some cotton patterned fabric (formerly curtains). I used different material than on the original backpack: a magnet closing system, backpack band and strap systems.

I definitely recommend that pattern. The instructions were good, the whole process was easy. I only made the bag bigger than the pattern because the lady mentioned that it was a little small for her 4yo and just right for her 2yo. Since I wanted it for a 3yo and I wanted it to last a little while, I made it about 4cm bigger (if I remember well).

One and a half month after making it, I can say that it is a good one. N. uses it daily and is very happy about it.

Pouch for the Kindergarten

I know it's been a long time since I last posted. Since beginning of September at least... Well, my oldest, N., started Kindergarten on the 15th of Sept. and we had one week of varying schedules since it was the "adaptation" period. Then she got sick, naturally *sigh*, and had to stay a whole week at home. So the third week became her second adaptation week. It went much less well than the first and still now she isn't completely settled in.

In order to make her feel a little bit "at home" though, I made her several things. Here's the first: a small pouch for her favourite plush-toy, the one she needs for sleeping (it is called Doudou in French).

There is probably nothing easier to make than such a small pouch with a ribbon to pull it closed :)
