Painting eggs

This year was the first year T. participated in decorating eggs. He seemed to rather like it :) His sister was just as inspired as the year before and was rather efficient. We decorated the eggs with a friend and her little girl, together with this friend, N. got into decorating two eggs at a time, putting a LARGE amount of paint on her hands and then rolling the eggs on a stick... it created a very interesting effect once the paint was dry.

T.'s very first decorated egg! Hard-boiled so we ate it afterwards though.

Easter yarn eggs

For Easter I decided to try something new. I cannot give you the link as I have seem to have lost it, but somewhere on Pinterest or on the internet I found a recipe (flour and water!) to make yarn eggs. It went really well and I was glad it was just flour because N. licked her fingers several times. Next year I want to try a mixture of glue and water though because the flour does still show after drying.

Look at the pictures to see "how to" :
Yarn of different colours, water balloons filled with air NOT with water! Flour, water and a bowl.
Dip the yarn in the mixture.
Wipe away the excess with your fingers
Wrap around the balloons and leave to dry over night (if you can, turn them once in a while, sponging some of the liquid away).
When it is properly dry, push the balloon a little bit and burst it with a needle. That was N.'s favourite part! She just loved popping them and watching the cloud of flour flying around us!

And then display your eggs and/or fill them with decorations. One can also fill the balloons BEFORE closing them and then putting more yarn, but my chocolates were too big to fit in! So I chose to put some green felt and tiny chicks instead ;)

Happy Easter to you all!

Easter decorations

Easter is coming up and Little N. is old enough to make some decorations with a bit of my help.

We started last week with decorating a polystyrene egg for a small competition at our local "Apotheke" (pharmacist). We got the results two days ago. Little N. was 19th out of at least 30 children. She did not win a big price, but every paricipating child got a small bag filled with some presents which is a lovely idea. We also got the egg back and it is now hanging in our living-room:

We then got on making some cards to send to our families:

Then we painted some hard-boiled eggs:

And finally we made some more polystyrene eggs to give as presents:

Here is a picture showing everything that we have been using to make the eggs (actually we used pretty much the same materials for the cards):

Little N. rather liked making all of this but by the end of it she got fed up. We did the different things over several days but it still seemed to be asking for a little too much concentration. I guess I need to learn to adapt to her rather than do as much as I want to be done.

And to finish on Easter decorations, I am forwarding you to a previous post to show you our Easter mobile

Would love to get new ideas for next year, does anybody have suggestions? Little N. will then be 2 and a half, and Baby T. 1 yo.
